30 Years Searching for the Truth (Missing Children during the Armed Conflict in El Salvador)

In 1994, after the devastating armed conflict that claimed thousands of lives and left hundreds of people missing, a group of mothers, fathers and family members from different areas of the country joined together with the accompaniment of Father Jon Cortina to search tirelessly for their daughters and sons and reunite with them.

As a result of this effort, the Asociación Pro-Búsqueda de niñas y niños desaparecidos was founded.

And since then, we have led the investigation of cases of children who disappeared during the armed conflict, seeking to establish their whereabouts, discover the truth of the facts and repair the damage caused by these grave violations of their rights.

In 30 years, Pro-Búsqueda has received 1046 cases, successfully resolving 469 of them. These achievements reinforce our commitment to families separated by conflict, to the work of Ralph and Father Jon Cortina. For their memory and legacy is still with us.

However, there is still a long road ahead, but we move forward together rewriting and commemorating our histories.
